Considerations in Couples Therapy during COVID19

This conference session will identify the commonly reported experiences that couples and people in relationships are facing during social isolation. We will also identify the common challenges clinicians are being asked to attend to with these clients during quarantine. Participants will determine appropriate treatment goals for relationship therapy, define the limits and boundaries that exist through telehealth with couples, and discuss possible treatment strategies within the context of COVID19.

Educational Objectives:

  • Name at least three common experiences couples are facing during social isolation
  • List two challenges clinicians face using telehealth to treat couples
  • Identify one treatment strategy to assist couples during COVID19

Speaker Biography:

Fiona O’Farrell is a licensed marriage and family therapist and AASECT certified sex therapist. Her clinical practice focuses on relationship therapy including sexual health and wellness, shame reduction, intimacy enhancement in relationships, queer-affirmative care and working with LGBTQ+ clients. She the coordinator of the sexuality certificates program at Antioch University Seattle and teaches classes in systems theory, human sexuality, sex therapy, and relationship therapy.
