FAXAGE offers HIPAA secure Internet Fax services. All of their fax service plans come with “HIPAA compliance standard – No need for a ‘special’ plan or to pay extra for HIPAA related security features.”
Their support was very responsive to our requests and quite knowledgeable about the ins and outs of their security options. Faxage had many recommendations about how best to protect PHI, so it’s clear that catering to the healthcare market isn’t just an afterthought for them.
We especially appreciate their understanding of HIPAA compliance being a two party process, fulfilling their responsibilities as a business associate and giving users both the information and tools to meet their responsibilities. As an example of this: “In general, it is our responsibility to put required mechanisms in place which allow you to comply with HIPAA through using our online fax services appropriately. It is your responsibility to utilize the mechanisms that we provide in order to maintain your compliance. It is especially critical that you visit ‘Admin’ -> ‘Secure Email’ after logging on to your account to set up one of the security options for incoming faxes.” And there is one of your first usage notes!

1) Be sure to request, sign, and submit your BAA
